You could probably get away with the 4.6 diffs from a 2.8 td patrol which might be easier to find and appear to be stronger than the aftermarket 4.88's.

BTW if you look at the aluminium plate on the firewall where it says "transaxle" the last two numbers indicate the diff ratio.
EG: 39 = 3.900:1 and 41 = 4.111:1 and 43 = 4.375:1 and 46 = 4.625:1

Greetings from Philippine Islands!

I would just like to ask if there is a possibility to a 33 = 3.3??? diff ratio? Our Safari here was sold with TD42 engine but when I looked into the metal plate it was stamped 1033. Kindly enlighten me on this matter. I am currently fitted with 35x12.5x15 Dunlop MT1. Do I need to re-gear?

haven't heard of that one but maybe it had MQ running gear and i nothing of those.
sure it wasn't 33 for motor= the 3.3 diesel was common here.
or maybe 4.3 =the 4.3 diff ratios were in the 3.0 petrol.

I will try to look at it again on a bright sunny day. And ask another individual for a pair of eyes for confirmation. :D

Thanks!

What are the different ratios? Is there a difference between the 4.2 Petrol and the 3.0 Petrol?
