tyre and rim question

THIS IS NOT A TYRE COMPARISON!!!!

I've been checking out getting 35 x 12.5's for my shorty and at the same time i figured I may as well replace my well and truly shagged sunraysias. I was told by a few tyre places that for 35's I would need 15x10 rims but I know of several mates that have 35's on 15x8 sunraysias and have had no probs whatsoever, that includes having them aired down. Here in lies the question: which one is right? I was quite happy to have them on 8" rims but one of the places was adament that I couldnt. What does everyone else think based on their knowledge and experience.
Plus what tyre do people think I should get? :finger: (Can I borrow someones flame suit?)

Engineer and manufacturer will not reccommend...BUT...12.5s on a 8 or 7 will run fine. A thinner rim will hold a bead tighter allowing lower off road pressures. It will protect the bead and sidewall also.

A 10 will push the bead out making the bead and side wall more vulnerable.

A 10 will give you a fatter balloon type look but is not the best for off road.
