As title suggests I am changing motors, im am looking at putting a factory GU intercooled turbo
(TD6?) into my GQ that currently has a TD42 .
Are there any wiring differences between these motors, ie fuel pumps that I need to be aware of.
I know there are some differences with plumbing, particularly air intake, but they I think that will be manageable.
GU motor is complete except for starter motor and possibly alternator
Any assistance appreciated
Cheers
Brad

The alt should not be a hard thing. As there is no vacuum pump on the GU alt. Startd should be the same.
But what may be a problem is that the injector pump has a small electronic bit on it. Where as the GQ dosent have this bit.
Other than that, you may need to check the engine mounts. Cos if your truck is and earlie model GQ they only had 2bolt engine mounts later ones and am guessing the GU's are the same had a 4 bolt mount.

I have a single pin plug on the back of my current fuel pump and this appears to be the same on the GU
I have a 96 GQ so should be OK with engine mounts
I am also suspicous that my current engine may be out of a GU as I have the different rear main seal

We just did this in the shorty but without the intercooler and we kept our Safari Turbo.
Alternator was easy, starter motor same, we fitted a new clutch at same time. Yeh Rear main was different.
The fuel pumps vary dramatically - evidently Nissan were trying to improve emissions. The new pump will have the aneroid but it didnt complicate things for us at all.
Yes we had to change engine mounts at the last minute. Had a set tho.
New motor =
and we've only just begun. Torque plus!

Spoke to the wrecker the other day and he still has the vehicle it came out of and it quite happy for me to scrounge bits off that if I need them for the change over. All I have to do now is sell my old motor
