this all sounds very simular to my GQ ( problem started 3 days ago )

got in the car to go to work turned it on and there was a loud knocking sound from the front of the motor as i was running late i drove to the train got out with car idling no noise any more.

so over the last couple of days i have noticed it only happens when it is cold early mornings or nights if the days are warm no noise even if left overnight and noise dissapears after driving for 500m.

so guys any ideas on what to check am starting a new thread as well just thought it may be relevant here as well.

Is it a tappet kind off knock? Probably something to do with the oil as it is thick when cold and obviously thins when the engine warms or it is a warm day.

An idler pulley bearing will do this when the grease is cold and thick.
Take off your belts and check the pulley's for roughness.
Leave it standing overnight with no belts and see if the noise is there with the cold morning start.

there arent much worse.. Thats the bearings on your crank which is in the sump which the conrods are connected to.
