I reckon it'd be a good idea to post a list of tyre sizes, comparing what they actually measure to what they're meant to be. Some of the variations are just stoopid and its good info if you're looking to buy  I need to go larger now to save my gearing

Best idea is to use a template... just cut and paste it for each tyre type :D I'll start......... maybe this could get stickified :?:

BRAND : Pro Comp

MODEL : X-Terrain

STATED SIZE : 31"

MEASURED SIZE : 30"

RIM WIDTH : 7"

PSI : 32

good ideas slunnie

last time i was looking for tyres, they had a chart that gave actual measured size of the tyre im mm, that way you can see the difference in size by mm. very acurate, but i dont knwo when they measure it, ie, on rim or off........

just an idea

measuring rim would also be good to gauge width and also measured pressure which all make a difference.

BRAND : Simex

MODEL : JT2

STATED SIZE : 34x11.5-16

MEASURED SIZE : 35.2 x 11.8

RIM: 8"

PSI: 36

I thought tyres sizes were measured off the vehicle.

I made up a list a while back for that exact reason, got about 15 different companies, only did 31's 32's and 33's. I dont know how to post it so it is readable though, i did it in excel, if youv'e got any ideas let me know and I'll try to put her up. I only used the companies claimed overall diameter though.

I think most makers measure diagonally or horizontally, that way they can say measured on vehicle is same as off.

Just a thought, eg, if a 31" is measured at about 30" and it seams that most are. Than maybe they ( the manufactorer) may mean 31" is the size the tyre will expand to at speed... That would give you a max clearance.
As I said, just my own thoughts, but it would explain the differance.
