Hey, I am wondering are BJ42 components ie diffs and steering etc compatible with a petrol 75 FJ40. i am looking at some parts etc to upgrade my 40 and would like to know if this is possible. and to fit these components, does any fab work apart from say pwr steering pump brackets have to be done
Cheers

I seriously doubt it, I think that the axles etc. where coarse spline in '75 then they went to a fine spline design in '76 I think. You could just get later model whole diffs complete with a disc brake front end.

the diffs i am looking at are fully complete ie hub to hub, so they should work then?

Yes, whole diffs should bolt up to your FJ40, but the driveshaft bolt pattern may be different. Be sure to get the brake master cylinder off the BJ42 unless your FJ40 has a September '75 or later build date. The residual pressure valve in the MC is different on a disc brake vehicle.

The brake lines go down on the passenger side on the BJ.

Change of plans, BJ diff idea now not available, now 60 series diffs i hear are a common conversion, however, are the spring perches etc the same width as a 40 series diff, i now the overall diff in a 60s is wider How much though? And by going 60 series, will my steering linkages from steer box to hub need changing etc. I am just trying to work out the best solution to converting the front at least to a disc brake setup?
What are my options for pwr steer as well?
Thanks in advance

I measured the difference between a 75s and a 60 s ( I think a 75 is the same as a 40) and I found that the 60 was approx 60mm wider than the 75 and the spring mounts were approx 50mm wider.
one power steering conversion that people do is fit a 60 or 75 series power steering box to the 40 series. I think croozer on this forum still has a 40 series power steering box etc for sale.
