method of fixing/mounting?

how do people mount brackets and stuff to their A/B/C pillars?

self drilling screws? pop rivets?

the metal is thin, and i cant get to the other side to put a nut on a bolt.

1. i need to put a bracket to support a snorkel. i think the pop rivets can handle this. also, how can i seal from water leakage? silicon?

2. what can i do/use if i need to mount anything that may be a bit heavier?

thanks
Steve

Pop rivets and a non-acidic silicone or similar would be suitable. The adhesive prevents movement between the sheet metal and what you are mounting, which is the main killer of pop rivets on corrugations etc. For heavier items you can use "riv-nuts" or similar which are basically a captive nut which you expansion crimp behind the sheet metal much like a pop-rivet and then screw a bolt into. I have seen them at my local CBC bearings outlet. Be wary of mounting heavy stuff to sheetmetal, it is really not suited to it.

That stuff hold everything and is a prick to get off when need too. I would use self tapers and some sort of adhisve to make it a little more stadle.

the safari snorkel for Vitara uses 3 screws into the a pillar from memory. Add some silicone and you should be right. Just don't make the snorkel any heavier than you need.

most safari snorkels use those plastic inserts that you screw a self tapper into. drill an 8mm hole, push plastic insert into hole then screw in the three self tappers. a few use rivets though so just whatevers easiest for you should do.
