Cutting welds

Not being a welder (or any sort of handyman for that matter), thought I'd ask some advice here:-
Need to remove a gas bottle holder (the ring type) from the front chassis rail of my camper trailer (and also move the jockey wheel forward).
What is the best way to cut the welds without damaging the chassis rail? Want to cut it off clean, and not leave any part of the gas bottle holder there (ie, don't want to simply cut the gas bottle holder, but more the welds themselves)
If it is with an a grinder, what sort of cutting disk do I look for?
Thanks in advance.
