surf tacho in hilux

Hi!
Recently i have installed the instrument cluster (yazaki) out of a surf (1990, 2L-T) into my lux (1992, 2L).
All working fine up to the tacho. To make it work proper, i would have to change the injector pump, which is too complex for me.
So i decided to use the signal from the generator (denso).
Works also, only the indicated idle speed is naturally much to high, so i
need a part which corrects the signal (some kind of modulator?).
What i need to know is which voltage uses the tachometer? 5 or ten volts?
And what kind of signal (sine like the generator?).
Thanks for your opinions and suggestions
Regards from Austria!
