Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Im fitting up a turbo to my old 2.8 lux and was thinking of getting some aftermarket gauges.
In particular I was thinking boost and pyro (EGT) and posibly oil pressure (have factory oil pres gauge but is pretty sh!t).

What are peoples thoughts on brands etc?
Are Autometer worth the extra dollars? Are they better quality or are you just paying for bling?
Also for an oil pres gauge is mech or electric better?

I was thinking of an Autometer 4303 boost guage and a 4344 pyro.

Is there anyone on this board who sells these and can do a good price?
So far the best price Ive had is around $130 for the boost and $350 for the pyro.

I already have an autometer boost guage, works well and good design. I am planning on getting a pyro and oil pressure guage in the same style (Phantom series). I found this site in the US that does a pyro in celcius and 150psi oil pressure gauge, together its $200 US without shipping.

Probably better off getting your autometer gauges from the US, they all seem heavily marked up over here.

yes i am wanting pretty much the exact same thing. Boost, oil pressure and a voltmeter instead of pyro, maybe the pyro aswell.

Autometer seems expensive. Ive been looking at the Speco range and they seem the go pricewise. Im unsure of guage size though because they either need to be dash mount or pillar mount and i need the guage cups to fit.

dude I paid $130 each for water temp and oil pressure. they where splitfire. I wouldn't do it again, as you should be able to find cheaper.

Go buy "perth street machine" magazine. Heaps of deals and stuff, with way better prices.

Comes down to you get what you pay for. Try to get a T-fitting for the oil pressure and still run a switch for a low oil pressure light. I have autometer to monitor my clevo oil pressure is mechanical u just have be careful where you run the line as hot oil spraying everywhere is not good.
Also running Speco on 22R. The only difference is when the pressure is at the low 0-30psi I think the autometer is a little more accurate.
Have had VDO gauges in the past they were pretty good and resonably priced.
Basically comes down to the quality of the fittings and senders etc.
Full sweep and short sweep options in the autometer range. Try ROCKET INDUSTRIES they are the importers they should be able to recommend someone in your area. Could help with price but freight is the killer.

Frieght should be no probs you could probably jam a pair of gauges into an airbag.
Which is around $16 (I think).

So has anyone had good results with the Speco gauges?
From a distance the silver faced Specos look identical to Autometer Ultralites. But up close you can see they are made cheaper.
VDOs are a good price but look a bit plain

I priced some VDO guages the other month from repco.

Boost Guage p/n 150077011(only measures positive pressure) = $50
Pyromemter kit p/n 397015003 (in celcius) = $250

There are some guys in the NT who make a pyro kit with a digital display for a reasonable price, will try to find their name or link.

Im runnin 3x VDO gauges in a dash pod.

EGT, Engine temp, and boost gauge... looks horn clear and easy to read...

For EGT I am going to use this kit from Jaycar (once I get my engine back).

This is an LCD display temperature module that uses standard K type thermocouples to measure up to 1200C. The beauty of it is that it also has an adjustable temperature switch that could switch a high temperature alarm or whatever.

I am going to buy 3 so that I can use one for EGT, one for water temp (with alarm) and one for post turbo air temp. Once everything is settled and tuned I will move the air temp to the hydraulic reservoir for the winch so I can keep an eye on that instead. Not sure where to mount them as yet... might just revive the old AM radio console that my truck had when I bought it with a few modifications.
