Diff Issues

Post by Ridealldayrideallnight »

G'Day all,

Quick question about my diffs, my rear diff is stuffed and I have no money :( can I swap the front and rear centers as a cheap (FREE) fix for now? what are the differences in each end? Mines an 88 Build Suzuki Sierra 1.3 WT Hardtop.

Thanks for any info

I thought the centres are changeable but not the side gears?

Is this the same for NT's as well.

cheers

yes you can put the front into the rear but like nicbeer said the side gears need to be swapped to allow the different axle splinesand widths shafts

same for the narrow tracks , and the 1.3ltr n/t are interchangeable with the wide track ones just different ratios and drive flange

if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

you could swap the ring and pinion, from the front to the back, as it would have done a lot less Km's.
If it is the R/P whining?

I had a mechanic look at it and he said it was the pinion bearing but it would have probably damaged the gears and therefore need to replace the lot, what would be involved in removing the pinion bits to swap them? I don't think I'd bother swapping parts as I'd probably end up with 2 shit diffs rather than one

put the shit gears in the front, and while your at it re;lace the bearings.
The just slip onto the pinion shaft and the other end presses into the third member, you will see when u pull it appart, and shouldnt cost too much for bearings.
If u cant set the diff youself, I would take it to some one who can.
