Has anyone had a chance to drive one of the new Hiluxs that come in Turbo Diesel Automatic ?
I am after some opinions on how they drive, do they go ok - or does the auto Transmission make them sluggish ?

How is the gearing in them?

Why did Toyota stick with the 4 speed box and not put the 5 speed Auto in that they use in the petrol V6 ?

Thanks in Advance.

Most likely cost cutting but maybe with such a large torque spread from the engine the extra cog may of only had a negligible performance benefit, if any.

Hopefully I'll get to test drive a TD auto this week myself. Perfect combo for beach work.

There isn't much difference ( between 4 or 5 speed Auto) in top end, all the difference is down low.
The 5 speed is geared much lower which gets a much better reduction in low range.

I guess having a 5 speed would also help with lower gearing if you wanted to put bigger tyres on it.

The have a good 5 speed auto box that they put in the petrol, buggers me why the used the old 4 speed box with the diesel.
Seems a shame.

From the couple of basic reviews I have read, the experts are already starting to become aware of this flaw I think.
