Building a Truck for "WE ROCK"

G'day all, starting my project car to have it done for WE ROCK in 9 weeks.

Starting point is a bare Series II SWB chassis. will be running a 300tdi, F250 box and LT95 transfer. also going to have GQ diffs.

Will be running Series landy body but possibly have a defender front end.

lots of tube work to go on. going to run the firewall and wiring loom off the Stage I V8 that I'm wrecking. It will have Custom Coil Kit front and rear with A-frame rear and 3 link with panhard rod front end. going for stability before massive flex (one thing at a time).

Will be interesting to see the buildup DAS, good luck. Will also probably be the only diesel at werock!

Why a full bodied rig and not a buggy though? It will make it less competitive, since I understand only one class is being run this season.

Who said full body?? yes it will have more of a body than any buggy, but this truck will be my comp car for other comps like woodpecker , nissan trials etc so needs to be registerable as well.

This round of WE rock is the last of the "Softer" terrain so "Tuff truck" type rigs can still have ago, then from here on is going to be more full buggy terrain.

I will build a buggy further down the track when I see a need. But after driving in Tuff Truck I just want a very capable rig that I can wheel and not stress about getting to work on monday.

had to move some panels out of the way. so just sat them on the chassis to to see how it will fit together

Fair enough DAS.

So what suspension setup are you going with?

running 3 link rear with A-frame, will be setup for crawling (if you know what i mean)

front will be a 3 link with panhard rod.

coil all round for now.

Sounds like a good setup. Are you planning on adding air shocks later? What wheelbase?

Since you don't need lights for WErock you may want to run IIA guards if you have them. Those SIII/110 guards will probably be toast by the end of the event, and IIA guards are cheaper and easier to fix.

air shocks or coil overs are thoughts for later yes.

100" - 103" wheelbase

Yes they are my "pretty" guards while not competing ;)

Could you make a tube front clip that you had the guards attach too, but when competing take them off, would be pretty easy to do.

Would We -Rock allow that in the legends class?

Dave.

already got a plan for the front end wise...those panels are for the road.

will be some tube to slide on rocks

This weekend I plan to cut off all brackets I don't need. mount the engine and gearbox. And make as many brackets as possible to weld onto the chassis

see how I go

Still interested. Interesting idea using the spring mounts for link mounts. What bushes are you using in the link ends?
