Angle grinder is a pita! It melts the rubber and it then sticks to the cutting wheel until it is releases where it gets flung around the room and all over you. Plus the rubber stays molten and you cant get it off your tools or anything it lands on. So go ahead - use your angle grinder

Groovers cost around US$60-70 so you could buy one and ship it.

Aussie ones are AUS$250-300 but you get local support etc.
They are used a lot by rally and circletrack racers so are not that hard to find.

We just grooved the FIRETRUCK's tsl/sx's and they turned out very well and didn't take too much work to do. Luckily we just borrowed a groover off someone local in Melbourne.
NFI who has one in Sydney...
Maybe you should buy one and then hire it out to people that want to use it

Ring around look for a place that deals in truck tires ,
I have a groover but the blades are really to small to do a good job was used for speed way outfit tires
I got mine done for $15 bucks a tire , As i stated in the other thread
grooving will bring them to life a bit for rocks and hard surfaces the down side they will wear twice as quick .

With out any jokes or comments...a sharp thin knife with baby oil will slice them with ease.
I can't remember the exact formula I used, but depending on how you want it done... count the number of lugs and work out how many to cut and how many to leave. As in each section of the centre rib has lateral knotches...chop out two leave one, chop out two leave three...or something like that...been a while since we did it. But doing it this way will give you an even job and a much better chance of maintaining some balance.
Good luck and show us the pics when done.

they are the Sports.
Nice job, looks the part and will certainly help the carcass flex more...but taking out complete sections right across the centre rib will definately alter the traction.

mudtoy..u seem to be the most knowledgable about these tyres..what pressures do u and can u run them at? at the moment have them about 14psi. never really had much to do with tube type tyres before. should i be looking for extra heavy duty type tubes like the simex or do the light truck tubes suffice? also with the grooving cutting, if i grooved every section on the centre band would that be too much? and what do u think about grooving the lugs? or am i getting carried away now?
