Front End Rattle

Has anybody heard of this?

If I am running along a forest road in 4H (ie hubs locked and 4H engaged) I get a strange rattle everytime I come off the power or get on the power and the noise lasts for about 3-4 seconds. It is not really a grinding noise, it just sounds like something is not engaging for a moment. After a few seconds, the noise goes. Obviously, if I am constanlty on the power, there is no noise.

I have an f80 petrol with powershift.

I can't quite tell if this is the txfr, front diff (ie backlash) or even hubs. Has anyone had this before?

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

I thought that my wheel bearings were on their way out in the front passengers side of mine. Have now found out after some investigation that the pitman arm is shagged. It makes the noise under load. The other thing that is causing me grief is a gearbox mount I think. It twists up really bad of road.

Thanks for the tips.

I had a play with the uni joints and there doesn't seem to be any unusual movement (using a screwdriver to test).

The noise is more like a rumble and sounds like something is not aligned for a short moment. I might have a look at the mounts and arms as suggested but any other tips would be appreciated also.

Thanks
