Outer Limits 4x4 Board

A mate is doing up a Gq for touring. He has all the usual goodies ( Bar, winch, kaymar rear, snorkle etc.) what suspension would the experienced tourers out there put in. He wants to end up with 2" lift above standard. If he goes 2" will he need to do anything with castor correction ?.

I was marginal at 2" on my SWB for castor - really should have a castor plate on one side.... it's almost good enough so I'll live with it - probably be ok when the springs settle a little anyway.

Note this is on te softest dobinsons springs I could get and a stiffer set would probably be worse.

Probably find a good whack offroad will either fix it or definately require a kit.

I only went 2" and 33"s to be more touring oriented than bushbashing - part of why I got rid of the vitara.

LWB should be fine at 2"... less impact due to LWB than SWB.

Dont believe all this crap about 4" no mods on shorties... If its a LWB you can with your insurance company and the state you're based I'd recommend 3" though. It will cost a little extra (but not much) but will save sill and quarterpanel damage.

Will clear the 33"s a little better too.

2" is a sensible legalish height for touring anyway.

SWB or Longy?

2 inch OME would suffice. Run some 31's as you can get them ANYWHERE, outback or far north.

But contact his insurance co first, some are now accepting NO lifts at all. :(

2in no caster correction needed.

7.5R16 are as common... and a little taller. Either is suitable.

2" lift fine for both.

Until they come up with rubber castor correction bushes it is probably better to leave it.

Extra Heavy duty springs front and rear to carry the extra weight for touring but not too heavy so it is uncomfortable.

A 2 inch lift is best and will cost $700 for Dobinsons shocks and Lovells springs delivered to your door. It was an extra $10 for XHeavy duty rear coils. If you want Procomp shocks add another $120.
