extreme treckers on the beach

going to stockton next month, was just wondering if any of you guys have run simex ETS on sand, are theyok on sand? do they dig in?

i had a set of silverstone extremes similar pattern but not as good and they were no worrys... the beach is quiet harmless if you know what your doin

Not the ET's but I have run the JT2's on stockton and they are perfectly fine. I did run them low in the pressures though and they wont bury you at the first sign of wheelspin but still go easy. On Fraser with the JT2's it barely spun through areas that had the others down on their bellys.

ok thanks for replies guys, ill give them a run, ive been to stockton plenty of times, ive just never run the ETs there

search for a thread with beach and mongrel as key words... look for antt as the author.
i believe he couldn't get the pos stuck

Years ago, the 'guys in the know' used to always say that the balder tyres work better in the sand when in fact lately it's been said that a more aggressive tyre will act like a paddle helping keep momentum up... i've always found more aggressive tyres better in the sand.

i have always heard the same thing and thought surely a more aggressive tyre would be better, thats why i asked the question. ill let you all know how they go after the trip

even in sand.
muds or better are far superior.

Muds or better dig in too fast.. specially with lots of coals on the fire... soon as they spin, the dig great holes..
What tires do most people crossing the simpson use? AT's.

There is a difference between what most people use and what performs best though. Look how agressive sand paddle tyres are. They do dig holes, but you'll know whats going on (well you should!) before getting bogged (no pun intended.

we had a HT (mighty 186 3 on the tree) holden back in Kurnell we used to head out to Boat harbour or the water holes in for years... Usually with copious amounts of piss in the boot for a weekend away...
We used to drive past many bogged 4b's and offer to tow them out for $50, man there were some pissed off people in their $40k+ machines ours cost $50 + a few tires from the back of the servo... specially when they saw we had bald tires, no doors or bootlid, or windows at all.. LOL!
Lets put it this way, if it was me I'd go AT's. Then again, when we did Robe, the only ones to get bogged on the beach were BFG MT's...

I did the beachport/robe area with 36" Et's, it's not a problem, sure you'll bury yourself if you dump the clutch, but that isn't the idea, i didn't get bogged once (twin lockers no doubt helped) just go easy on the power - depending on how much you have!

its a GQ with a 4.2 petrol motor

I did Robe (SA) at the start of 2004 right on the middle of summer. The sand was stinking hot and very fine. I brought two sets of tyres for the trip, namely a highway tread (Michelin XPC 235/70x16") and Simex Extreme Trekkers (32"x9.5x16")
Both did reasonably well and I think that the Simexes did better overall. I would say that if I had to make a choice, it would be the Simexes as long as you don't sink your boot in from standstill.
I had both sets of tyres down to low pressures (circa 14-16 psi)
