Rear diff, pinion flange oil seal. Is leaking. 100% it's due to mud an shit getting in there so the bearing is most likely ok.
Q. Is it safe to do this on my own, or is a specialist job?
Q. Do I need to replace the crush tube everytime?

Dude if there is mud and shit getting in then the bearings are most likely not ok. If you just want to try and fix the leak and see how the bearings go then its not a big job. If you do it yourself, be prepared for the fact that you may overtighten or undertighten your pinion nut. I do all my own diff work but have been playing with them for years. Check the outer bearing when you pull the seal out as an indication of what kind of condition the rest of the bearings are in, but if they aint making any noise chances are they are ok. no you probably dont have to replace the collapsibile spacer but its your decision . Just mark the position of the nut before you undo it, and just feel how much backlash etc your diff has so when it goes back together you have an idea how it should feel, and make sure you stake the nut again when you are finished. If the seal continues to leak you may need a speedy sleeve. Then again just get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it.

Do it yourself, thats the only way to learn. Thats if you can be carless for a day or so. You know I know people you PAY other people to change their oil?

Thanks for the tip HG. Giving them a call right now.
87Suzi, I agree with the DIY thing and have thus far done everything myself, 4"Sups, 2"Body, rebuilt swivel hubs, all 4 brakes and callipers, etc... But tooling up to do will take more time and effort considering I just called Dave and he can do it in under an hour while I wait!
Thanks guys.
