1UZ-FE Unichip results, etc...

Had a Unichip fitted to my Toyota 1UZ-FE in the Nissan GQ.
Here are the dyno results:
Image

Overall 20kW rear-wheel gain across the board with about 50% torque gain.
This dyno reads a little low. A different dyno read 130kW before the Unichip, so it would now read 150kWrw. The shop reckons I could be getting as much as a 40% loss through the drive train which would mean about 210kw at the engine. The GQ really goes well now.

The fuel economy was pretty bad before the Unichip, about 22L/100. After the Unichip over 150km (city and country) I recorded 17L/100 which I am very happy with (was 24L/100 with the TB42!)
This is not just down to the Unichip, I also found an air leak in the intake pipe which I fixed up.

I had 2 maps created, one for 91 octane unleaded and another for 98 octane. A switch on the dash selects the map. This was done so when I am touring I might not be able to get 98 RON fuel.

I have noticed a couple of things since I got the V8 fitted.
I have found that the engine rotates more freely than the six and this gives it a tendancy to stall when in low range when wlaking over rocks. I will have to play around with the idle a bit but ultimately I think reduction gears are the best solution.
I have also noticed that at 100kph its like hitting a brick wall as far as accelleration is concerned. This was the same with the TB42 and I could put it down to the fact that the GQ SWB is shaped liek a brick and the mud tyres dont help. Another reason could be that the engine is not getting enough air. Can anyone else tell me of thier experience with these engines at around 100kph? (I am running the big/heavy Nissan manual gearbox)

I would gladly recommend the Unichip fitters, Kelvin and Bill from Carb-N-Ject in Underwood.

How much was it? I have been thinking about getting one fitted once mine is up and running.

$1200 fitted
$300 for extra map

Unichips can be bought second hand.

I figured its something I can use on other cars in future.

I have a 90 SWB with a chev 305 in it. Yeah it is not as powerful as yours but may have a few ansers for you regarding this. Mine in 5th gear at about the same speed is the same.

Very slugish and no accelaration. I have put it down to the fact that there is soooo much drag on the car at that speed, also the fact the car weighs between 2 and 2.5 ton and mainly because of the RPM being around 2200 at that speed it is not in the power or torque band.

Also what size tyre are you running. This will make the RPM even lower and increase drag.

Figures from dyno look great. Your truck must be going great now. Have fun

The auto patrol I helped convert put down 106RW KW

32's on 3.9 gears with auto LWB

So with yrs running extractors 33's on 4.1 gears?

The Wolf 3D we used is proberbly putting out more power but is no where near as easy to install as the uni chip :?:

I dont know the diff ratios
Running 33's MTR's with the manual and extractors.
I might put the 31" AT's back on and see how it goes...
If you want to have a look bubs, no worries.
