Don't do it, they are more trouble than they are worth.
That goes for reverse shackle (done it myself) and "hinged" shackles. (seen plenty)

you saying don't do a SR??? despite the benefits of approach angle, movement direction of tyre when climbing, etc?

for both of those reasons. My sierra tracked really well at speed when SR and had less bumpsteer etc, but its climbing abilities reduced, because the car tries to drive over the top of the axle as the tyre moves back as it compresses. Tyre clearance becomes more marginal. The approach angle is not as good as you think because unless you end up with wacky caster, the front fixed mount position must be lower the the stock shackle location as the rear end of the spring lowers as you have to fit a shackle between the chassis and a spring.
The end result for me (I was SPUA) was no real improvement in approach angle and a reduction in clearance behind the axle due to the shackle.
I did it to do 3/4 eliptic in the front with 7.50 16's (go easy, this was in 1997 I figured I was hardcore:D) and the whole setup wasn't worth the effort.
It might work if you were spoa, but I really think that for off road work, stock shackle location rocks.
