hey
just lately my disco started making this bad noise which sounds like a busted bearing or metal crunching metal from under the car. when i inspected it the rear driveshaft had no play but noticed that the diff had been leaking from where the driveshft meet the diff.
has any one had this prob before or know what it is? or could help pin point the prob i would be greatful.
i am going to pull the center out this tuesday to check it out.

A bit more info may help. Is the noise coming from the rear, is it there all the time, do you get it on load or backing off or both ect?
Have you checked the rear diff oil level and the oil for metal contamination?

Try undoing your tail shaft at the diff end and moving the pinion. It will be easy to tell if the pinion bearing is gone as there will be heaps of movement.

Dare say it's a pinion bearing and seal is shagged due to play in shaft..... but then again it could be not.

thought the same pinion bearing
pulled of the tail shaft and and you could turn it but there was no play when you moved it up and down. its cool me and my brother are going to pull it apart this weekend just for a look and for the experience.
i also got told to check the hand brake drum aswell
