Winch wiring: relay needed?

I've had my winch (24v) on for a few weeks now, and its running ok so far, but should I be running a relay in there somewhere?

At the moment the main leads just run straight to the battery (+) and the chassis(-), and then the 2x 24v feeds for the remote are through my old spotlight switch (ie cant use remote unless you turn on switch).
This switch is on a relay, but I'm not sure if this is right.

Also, should the power lead be fused?

Cheers,
Dave

If I understand what you're saying correctly, you have a small wire running from inside your cabin to the winch remote control, but there are heavy wires running from the winch to the remote. Is that right?

If so, I think you're fine; the actual switching work is done by the remote which is designed for that job.

However, I could be misunderstanding what you've written, so...

Jason, sorry for being a little vague on the description, the wiring is as you describe.
Thanks for the quick reply.
