Hi, has anyone bought any of the following winches?

All 9500lbs

T-Max
Repco
ACME

The only reason Im asking about the ACME is because it looks identicle to the Repco one and are both made in china.

All of these have the 5.5hp motors.

saw an add for the repco winch for only $999,

how cheap, with a 5.5 hp motor too,

I need a new motor for my highmount, wonder if they'd sell the motor seperate?

Is a 9000 enough for a GQ SWB?

When reading up on specs some winches eg. 9500 and a 11500 seemed to only have the cable thicker. Is this correct. If the motor is the same on a 9500 to a 11500 and the gearing is different, would that make the 11500 slower?

masses of people using 8000 lows on GQs

would that make the 11500 slower?

if speed is critical to you, buy a high mount

I have a low mount bar.

I was just wondering if a 11500 would pull faster, slower or the same speed as a 9000.

IMHO, if the gearing and motor are the same, in the same conditions with same car they would be same speed.. The weight of cable would be the only factor, but I dont think it would be that much different.

The XP has a 6hp motor, the XD has a 4.6hp. So these other ones dont seem bad with a 5.5.

I cant find many specs on the Tabor, does anyone know the motor size?

I was chating to the T MAX winch distributor about these other brand of winches and they have turned out to be cheap copies of the T Max winch and a certain company that advertised them as T Max wiches is in serious trouble with lawyers.

I saw a 60 series with one of those Repco winches on it about 4 months ago, [at the time we didn't know the brand it didn't look familiar] well he couldn't climb this hill so he tried to winch single line pull and the winch took the weight and stopped and that was it, so well tried a double line pull through my snatch block with the same result. Thinking that it wasn't wired up correctly a mate checked all connections and all was OK.So I drove down to where he was and single line pulled it out with my T Max EW 9500.

No if you want speed get a HiMount.
I had a himount, then in the leadup to TTC decided on a new bar & winch....I (stupidly) sold my 8274 (which was 20years old)., and bought an Xp9.5......
The XP is SLOW when compared to the himount & I also experienced problems with my winch at TTC....whereas the 8274 never missed a beat.......
I miss my himount

Those on here that know me will recognise that I will take my corporate hat off here.

The XP suits most people but not the competition people like Wooders who are chasing ultimate no to low load speed.

Cheezy runs the previous model of this winch on his Mav and it does the job.

Personally I run and will always run a M8274 on my hardcore (well for a Datsun anyway) vehicle and an XP or simmilair on a touring vehicle if I have one again.

The Tabor is an entry level winch from Warn to combat the influx of Chinese winches and will suit an entry level winch user.

My 2c.

Sounds like the Tabor is a good choice for my 1st winch ;)

Thanks for all the advice guys.
