dodgy diff ?

Bought another MQ over the weekend and it has a weird problem, which is sorta hard to descibe.
When accelerating one side of the rear wants to squat (like normal), but only one side.
When decelerating it does the opposite.
It is like 1 side of the diff is turning/has power and the other doesnt.
Does this sound like a dodgy diff ?

Without actually looking or hearing anything, I would say check your suspension first.

busted/loose ubolts on the rear at a guess, at a quick gues, or even front drivers side u bolts, they have a tendancy to break,

No chance of it being a brake problem?? It sounds pretty severe, so i'm guessing you would have worked it out allready if it was a brake problem.

what you describe sounds like its pivoting on the center..
floor it the right goes down, left doesnt move
brake the left goes down, right doesnt move
Correct?

the old girl also broke down again just then (just got back home again)
either worn out points or condenser, not totally sure just yet but once its running it's fine. we will sort it out this week, hoping it doesnt have any major oils leaks.
murphys law: it makes it 1000km from south sydney to brisbane with a stack of stop/starts, one overnight stay in coffs & she decides to have a cry once it gets to brisbane

nah it does it with heavy acceleration or heavy decelleration using the engine, ie, hard pedal or no pedal.
it pulls the whole car side to side almost, made me feel like the steering was loose when it really isnt.
doesnt do it with the brakes.
it didnt seem like a huge problem at the time as it wasnt making any weird noises, and to be honest my other patrols have a lot of rattles and shit anyway.
hopefully it's not a huge problem, or done any damage by driving it that distance.

Do as Ozy said but also check the centre bolts in the spring, they hold the whole spring pack together & when they go they give symptoms as you described, usually pulling the brake on with the handbrake cable (wont be in this case as the handbrake is separate).
They are located under the diff in the centre if the spring saddle & can be seen through a hole in the saddle from underneath. If you are not sure then undo the ubilts & lift the diff & you cant miss it sitting in the centre of the spring. Helps locate the diff as well.
They cause heaps of problems.

you'd be surprised hey, this L28 has balls --> going up steep hills coming back from sydney at 100-110km/hr and it still could accelerate hard

well its torque steer coming from the back end, like one wheel is trying to twist harder then the other.
thats what made me think its the diff, the torque doesnt feel like it has been split right, but really what's the go with that?

Thats what it feels like when the U bolts or centre bolt breaks/comes loose
