hey guys, if youve got access to the latest suoercheap auto catalogue, "bag a big brand super sale", have a look at the inside rear cover. 12 volt electric winch.
it states:
1500lbs/680kg capacity,
4mm wire rope
cable tension plate
great for marine use and 4wd recovery,
$119.00

id love to see a 680 kg capacity winch recover my 2tonne cruiser from southport mud.
ill try get a scanned copy up on here..

It's also rated at 680kg so why would you try and recover a 2 tonne truck with it?
It's claim of 4WD recovery is a bit strange. Is there a 4WD under that load weight?

Although just stop & think a minute I reckon 680kg of pull is better than say two blokes behind a Cruiser pushing. Supercheap's market is aimed at a few different groups & one of those groups is one that can't afford to walk into a store & spend thousands on a ubeaut winch that'd pull the Queen Mary out of the mud. I reckon if I was stuck down the back of Boulia some where & all I had was the Supercheep special cause that's all i could afford I'd be glad of it. It might suprise a lot of you but people still go out 4wdriving without GPS, 38" tyres and all the other paraphenalia a lot of us consider essential.

Interesting point Paul I've had a Supercheap boatwinch for a coupla years now that I throw in the back of the zook when flyin solo out bush.
In that time there at least 2 occasions when it's been worth it's weight in gold.
1. getting out of a creek that had some very slippery rocks after some overnight rain (the previous day they had been dry and grippy as hell) It was pre lockers and S3 rockhopper for me, I had to ride the clutch and help the winch a little but I still got out with very little drama.
2. the other was climbing out of a dry sandy creek bed on a nasty angle that resulted in roll on to the side and I used the winch to right the vehicle. believe it or not I used one of those Supercheap power packs to power the thing for this rather than run leads from the bonnet and have all that moving whilst the lift was done. This would have been very difficult even if manpower had been available as I used the winch to hold the vehicle whilst I drove forward a little on to level ground.

It's also been used for misc workshop work including lifting the huge mongrel gearbox out of my mates forward control landy.

So all in all they probably are not totally without of use for us light weight vehicle owners, I've certainly had my money's worth from mine.

You cold just buy 4 of them and line them up along your bull bar, all pulling at the same time giving you 2700kg pulling capacity.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Is the point of pulling the front diff closer to the chassis on an incline to change the center of gravity and help prevent the car tipping back on itself.

If not i don't understand what this achieves.

i have one of these winches and they do help. When ya get stuck on slippery slopes the winch will help the forward movenent a bit . this can be just enough to get ya to a grippier surface. I would not advise using it to pull any 4x4 outa a deep bog but in some places they can be usefull.

BETTER THAN NOTHING WHEN YA OUT BY YOURSELF
