40 Series Diff Question

I have two front diffs, one on the truck and one 'donated' spare.
The spare is a drum front end so I think (correct me please someone if i'm wrong) this means it has the coarse spline axles ??
If so are the housing the same, the plan is to strip the donor diff and cut and rotate the knuckles without having to take the truck off the road for any length of time.
At the moment the pinion is pretty much horizontal and the tail shaft pops out at full flex.
Any help would be great
Cheers

It's probably fine spline unless it's pre '75ish. The housings changed the size of the cv's and the diffs end balls in about '79 by about 5mm. Otherwise the same.

Like turbo4t says, the spline change took place in September '75. But for a diff that is out of the truck, it might be hard to tell the year. The easiest way is to take the locking hub out and see for yourself.
I thought you Aussies don't call these vehicles "trucks" like we Yanks do? I thought to you "trucks" are heavy duty vehicles like those road trains? Or is it a case of the internet language influencing the local lingo?

I should of thought about taking the hub off !!
My missus and Kids always refer to anything 'larger than a car' as a truck, but sometimes it's more like 'get that bloody truck of my driveway'
Thanks I will let you know

Yes, I myself am not too thrilled to see that happen. IMO distinct dialects makes this life interesting
