I've got an Rb 30 motor in my GQ. Theres a fair bit that can be done to them. Turbo, injection 24 valve head etc. Other than just changing to a 4.2 or V8. What mods have any of you done or tried. How did the mods rate as in money spent for preformance gained. Thanks

fuel injection off vl commodore, extractors ( you can chop the end off commodore ones to make them fit, u can pic up 2nd hand for about $150) and 2.5 inch exhast. all make a big difference to power and torque. im running 35's fairly easilly.

A skyline RB26 head and injection set up would be the best combo for improvment with out going to a turbo set up. If you have that set up and decide to for a turbo later you will have one tuff motor under the bonnet.

Dont bother with twin cam heads....etc etc

The best bang for your buck is buying a complete turbo/efi system of vl commodore.

And yes you can turbo your naturally aspriated engine with no dramas/no decomping.

And dont bother trying to work the engine as it is (n/a)because you will be waisting your money.

Turbo+efi is the way to go!!!

Well, rb26 maybe...

but rb25de will bolt on as well with minor modification.

Cheap head and very easy to source and the cam's are probably more suited to a 4wd then the rb26 is.

I wouldn't turbo the engine, see if you can find a cheap supercharger kit and bolt that on.

Awesome torque down low from a 3L n/a + supercharger.

Turbo would be easier, but I'd still rather the supercharger after driving both setups.

I am currently doing the VL turbo conversion to my patrol I have everything in need except the exhaust (800 bucks)
and it has cost me just under 2000 dollars for all the bits. THis combo will make 150kw at the wheels. I Have helped a friend finish his one fairly simple convrsion. Very reliable and runs 33's everywhere. Otherwise you can just inject it now with VL stuff (non turbo) for about 400bucks and simply bolt the turbo stuff on later but swap out computer and injectors.
