welding tray.

not really a 4wd question but will be used for my 4wd transport.
Nissan ud 03 truck. i need to do some welding on the tray.
WILL I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE COMPUTER.
i know the batteries will.
fixing the rear bar and a couple of gates

i don't have a computer, but do have turbo timer and imoberliser. welded chassis and never disconected battery. my earth was clamped to the actual peices being welded.

better safe than sorry, eh? in theory as long as the battery is disconnected it shouldn't get any spikes to the computer(s) but you never know... so yeah I say disconnect it.

I've been told our Electrical Engineer that it is best to disconnect both batteries and computers. Position the earth as close as possible to weld.
Nothing may happen if you don't disconnect but it is an expensive gamble

always disconnect the battery terminals.
ALWAYS..
even id its clamped to peice being welded, the moment the first tak is done its attached as part of chassis and there fore will be running through ur battery earth also.

i have never and would not disconnect the battery. the battery prevents spiking and surging by acting as a capacitor. i happily weld around my gen3 computer which owes me $1500 and it is still sweet, as was my falcon one when i had that. the surging of a winch or starter motor is more of a current fluctuation than a welder would give it providing you clamp close to the weld zone. and i have done heaps of welding on the truck even building headers near the computer.

nissan trucks replied to my email and said to disconnect the computer
for all welding..
forcast rain this w/end so ill try it next w/end.
