That is... a Freedom Automotive Technologies comp bar...

Stuart from .FA.T. makes these in Bright, Vic.
It has greatly improved aproach and clearence angles, has far better protection of the radiator and hoses and I now can mount the high mount winch.
The new bar is 5-10kg lighter but much stronger



Before I had an ARB bar which was nice but didn't offer very good protection.

Are they ADR compliant?

It's on the limit. There could be question about the size of the gaps. (arms can fit in the holes each side of the winch if a pedestrian was hit.)

Stuart does some nice work. His welding is some of the best I've seen and he was very good to deal with. This bar is a prototype. As the series III Patrols have different cross members. The next ones will come out just outside of the flares.

He's also making front radius arms and rear trailing arms.

You cant have protrutions forward of the bar. Depends what you want to count as the front of the bar.

The only adr related problem you would have dramas with is the forward facing bar around the spotties, other than that there shouldnt be a drama.

Fuse has been pulled. Insurance is fine with that.

Forgive me for asking stupid questions, but with the fuse pulled is the vehicle still compliant with the ADR's for frontal collision?

I don't know Nissan's, so I can only assume that a non-airbag vehicle was available and the airbags are an option or trim level specific item.

Is this correct? If not, how did you notify the insurance company and what was their official reply?

utes were no airbag, don't know about wagons, but maybe the way out

I am trying to get a decent front bar for the XL-7, however it has dual front airbags and the only compliant bars are alloy and none are winch compatable. The recovery points also look a little suspicious to me.

All i want is a simple bar to improve the approach angle, give me some protection to the front in the case of animal strike or accidental roadside gardening, and somewhere to fir the winch down the track.

Goes without saying that I need to mount some lights, a decent set of recovery hooks and somewhere to use the highlift jack.

I really like to the look of the tube bars over the ARB style. And I need a rear bar with swing away carrier for the spare and some jerries, highlift, aerial and work lights.

Insurance says that theres no requirement to keep them activated.
Many people have de-activated because of fears of injury. Many people have been killed from airbags going off. Airbags also cost insurance companies many $$$.

It was uncertain to how the airbags would go with the 2" body lift so I had them disabled to be sure.

The battery needs to be disconected for half an hour before the fuse is pulled out. Or else it may go off.

You'd wanna make sure the fuse wasn't faulty.

Just imagine cruising down the highway and the fuse went open circuit or fell out and BOOM the airbag goes off in your face

Just thinking of pulling the fuse and them going off.

May have helped that largely in Aus airbags are an option. If the same car in a different trim version came without em them you don't need em.

If they came out as standard on all vehicles then you might have probs because they are needed to pass crash safety stuff.

Anyways...... I've got them off and if there's a crash them I'm the only one to blame if I get hurt....

Good to know I can go hard on the tracks with out worrying about it.

He also does trips to Melbourne fairly often, so delivery isn't too hard.

Don't need to.

Sold my ARB bar and 10,000lb low mount for $2,450.00.
That paid for the bar, winch and body lift.

bar looks great,

however i too am worried about the fwd facing top hoop. I was under the impression when i made my bar that this is illegal. and besides why put it so far fwd.

other than the top bar, i love the look of it, and looks good
