ok hi all im about to buy a hilux ute and just need to know what to look out for im looking form 1984 to 1992 and whats the best year and motor thank you

get a post 88 (i think) because they should have the 2.8L diesel. i would advise against the peterol becase its prolly rooted.

i ring up about one it had a 2L celica motor in it

I've got a 2ltr Celica/Supra motor. 1g-geu
Nothing flash on the road ( read..... SLOW ) Totally different story in low range with the 5.29 diffs.
Goes hard and just keeps going. Been drowned several time now and it still won't die.

if its diesel try to find a service history since diesels need a oil change EVERY 5000 km to make the motor last

all will usually have the swivel hubs leaking so theres a knocking point that repair done at a shop n properly can range up to $800

most have a shagged suspension

if you can lift the floor trim n check for sand if its done beach work

or get a nrma inspection done they always find probs you might miss most probs anyway

Theres a 99 per cent chance of the front springs bieng rooted and maybe the rear if so thay will need to be replaced and there not that cheap so think of that in the price.

make sure the springs havent been reset to a higher than normal hight, its shithouse trust me!!
