$10K to spend on a tray ute

A friend wants to buy a Toyota drop side ute (I have tried to talk him out of it). Basically a farm basher but will be travelling from his home to his farm and back, so it needs to have road manners. He has $10K to spend. What year/model etc should he be looking at? Any tips on what to look for?
