Improving highway performance on Hilux Surf

G'day all, I have just traded up from an old 2.2 hilux ute (1981) to a 1991 Hilux surf in excellent condition with only 120000 on the clock. The motor is the 2.4 turbo deisel.
Just wondering what I can do to make it slightly more economical on the highway.
I am currently thinking of installing a snorkel, but have also considered installing a hiclone or two.
Does anyone have any experience with hiclones on turbo diesels??
Also, does anyone have any tips on where to pick up a cheap Snorkel, I'm up in Townsville and the cheapest i can find is $490 installed.

I have a mate with a rodeo and put hiclones on it then got it dyno tuned and it made more hp with out the hiclones than with them on. Just get it dyno tuned and maybe a bit more boost and u will be scooting along in no time. U wont get any more economicl tho

I had been told that a snorkel will assist in making it more economical as it feeds cold air to the motor, therefore running it more efficiently - also, on the highway getting the 'ramair' effect.

as tuff 75 said, i have the 2lte motor, running a bit over standard and with a snorkel i think its a bit of a joke, but saves water ingress, the best thing i did was to get my self a top mount intercooler, from a late model paj.
more power

after you fit the snorkel you might want to put a bigger exaust
on i have a 3 inch strait threw and more air in and out the more efficiant
it should run

I have the 3 litre t/d Surf.
8km/litre before snorkel and before straight thu 2 1/2 inch exhaust
8km/litre after snorkel and after straight thru 2 1/2 inch exhaust.
Both made no difference....except without muffler it sounds better
Cheers

This is a link to show how to block the EGR valve as well.
