Wiring gas relay to HEI dizzy

i am looking at fitting a HEI dizzy5(one withe the coil inside the dizzy) to my 308 , the only problem i can see is that the gas has a pick up wire off the coil so that it only pumps gas when the coil is powered (engine is running)

how would i wire this to a HEI dizzy so that it isnt pumping gas as soon as i have the ignition power on , is there somewhere else i can get power from only when the engine is running?

a hei dizzy ( on a chev anyway) has 3 wires. tacho, power and gnd. just use a test light to check if the tacho wire is what your after.

Anyway. if the fuel pump runs when the motor isnt running, it should be ok , considering the fact that most of the fuel runs into the over flow anyway.

the ones i have looked at only have 1 wire to hookup

also i am running straight gas (LPG) not petrol , that is why im wondering if there is a problem with having the gas running while only the ignition is on and the car isnt running

ahh for straight gas. Peice of piss. gas usess the vaccumm off the motor to draw in the gas . all you need to do is simply hook up the safety cut off solonoid to Ign+ so it only comes on when ign is on . and thats it. all it is is a simply relay . thats the wire i use for my kill switch.

No. It's a little more complicated than that.

DO NOT hook your gas solenoid to ignition. If you have an accident and stall your engine it creates a SERIOUS hazard. Do it properly.

It's a similar argument for electric fuel pumps - after an accident you don't really want the fuel pump to be pumping fuel out of a fractured fuel line.

I was thinking the same thing for when i fit my hei dizzy to the rangie, i think the tacho pin will be the right one - gas controllers usually connect to -v coil terminal. You want the solenoids to be shut off when the engine dies.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
