im thinking of getting another 4B for a general vechile for the missus. Im thinkin about gettin a 4.5 litre 100 series with the coils not IFS. Only thing i am concerned about is the fuel consumption. I will be putting 285's or 315's on it with maybe a 4 inch lift. so if someone could give me a fuel usage idea that would be great thanks

the single most influential factor (and also the most controllable) affecting fuel consumtion is driving style and habits - if you drive any vehicle hard it will use more fuel, if you employ a few tricks, you can get a lot more distance from every tankful. with that in mind, the range of economy you can probably expect, with 315's and 4" lift, probably starts around 15 - 16 litres per 100km on the highway, taking it easy, and not exceeding true 100km/h (indicated about 90 with the 315's), and the top end will be well into the 20's, for around town and/or going hard. on the sand, or low range offroad work, will send the numbers into the 30's.

you also don't say whether you're looking at an auto or manual - the auto will probably do slightly better on the highway but worse around town

cheers

i travel 45 ks each way to and from work down the f3 freeway and use about 20-21 lt per 100km.doing 110 speed limit it revs at about 2800rpm .around town i probably get about 17-18 lt per 100 km.costs a friggin fortune in fuel.would suggest getting gas conversion i had one on my 80s and it reduced costs by heaps. try out some wreckers for a system i got mine for600 bucks and cost me 200 to have it wired up .but i installed it myself.easy to do seeing it was straight out of another one. hope this helps

hey muddy,

you're saying it uses more on the freeway than around town? is it lifted/bigger wheels/roofracks etc?

cheers

On my 4.5lt 80 I run 35's and a large lift prob 4 to 6" plus 2" body lift it is better on hwy than around town it has a total of approx 270lt fuel cappasity so driving on the free way from Sydney Melbourne at a true 115klm/per/hr i got just under 7klm per lt out of it then it all go's down hill from there when it is at it's worst pushing it around town and i push it, towing trailers to tip towing caravan 4wding etc etc it seems to always average at about 4.5klm per lt

ow and mines a manual are the auto's any good??? strong reliable???
