Toyota Hilux Sterring Arm Question

I have just converted my LN65 Hilux to power steering using a LN106 Power Steering Box.

This is a solid axle hilux, not cross over or highsteer.

The problem I have is where the drag link connects to the the steering arm, it now hits the leaf spring U-bolts. It was always close, but now the new steering box is in, it has changed the angle slightly and now it hits.

What I don't understand, is that a bloke at work has a standard LN106 hilux and where the draglink connects to the steering arm there is about 1.5 inches of clearance to the U-bolts on the leaf spring.

I rang toyota and they said the steering arm is the same for both models, so I can't work out why there is so much difference.

Now before anyone says something like suspension heights etc Its all mounted off the steering knuckle, so spring height would have nothing to do with it.

Only thing I can think of is perhaps mine is bent?

Any help would be great!

Thats why, you have changed the angle slighty and it hits. Mine did the same thing, although i cant tell you if its bent or not because i went to x-over after.

Doesn't explain why there is over 1.5 inches of clearance on the stock LN106 model.

Hmm, when my 106's steering was standard i had the same drama, it was really really close and rubbed when the spring drooped, it might be bent.

Bit out of left field but are you steering knuckle bearing tight? Maybe they are a bit loose and letting it flop over closer to the u bolts.

I dont know im f*cked for ideas on this one. :? :D

Are you using a droped draglink or a standard one?

everything is standard unless stated...

You may need to flip the ball stud and use a droped draglink or you could use a set of flat u bolts.

Tonka are the pitman arms different length on both steering boxs :?:
cause I done the same thing to my Hilux about 2 years ago and I had no problems.you may have to put a new j arm on, is this bent at all :?

Yeh, id be checking the differences in pitman arm lengths, not trusting some spares dude from toyota who's trying to get away early on a friday so he can go smoke his crack.

The thing is, no matter what length the J arm is, it will still not make up the difference at the Steering arm end. It was very close before I changed boxes, and now its hitting due to the power steering box pushing the drag link out a little further from the body.

What I would like if possible is pics of your luxs (people who havent changed to cross/over) of the the steering arm/draglink in relation to the springs/U-bolts.
