looking for a good first car, but dont know much about them,any1 have any advice on this one?,any1 ever owned one?.what do u think?good buy,or not??

youll know if its been offroad by checking door hinges for dirt (easier in WA cos of the amount of red dirt around here) and rust.

all it needs now is 31's, some air lockers, spotties...

if you can stretch your budget a little more then get an efi.

Go the manual! Offer them $6000 ....... It's probably still a bit steep but looks like its been well looked after. Just me opinion

yes more economical, better power, way better offroad on steep hills, not as much servicing/tuning of the fuel system required. only cons are, they are not as simple for backyard mechanics and due to the electrical nature of them it may be harder to diognose faults in the system.

Oh also i wanted to know if any1 has had any trouble with soft tops, im a bit hesitant to get one if i cant trust leaving all my shit in there??....any1 have any soft top horror stories i should know about before purchasing a car with 1?

ok, 1st things 1st. Are you planning on doing off road driving? or planning to give it any lift in the future? or will this be just a run about 1st car? reason i ask, is a lot of people prefer Suzuki Sierra's for off roading, and not a vitara, but if you're not going to be getting into the rough stuff, then this is a very good 1st car. i just wish i could have been offered something like that when i was looking for a vitara.

its a good price, and looks to be in very good condition. plus, you have PS (good for big wheels and tyres), it has power windows and mirrors (ahhh, what luxuries), central locking and low K's. i think thats damn good.

with soft tops, a lot of people just keep the car empty (ie: no valuables inside to see), or you could get a descent alarm system for it. alarms are worth it for S/Tops. the soft top on it looks to be in VGC, so thats a bonus. if you plan on taking it off, make sure you put it back on over night, or sometimes they shrink and may not fit properly again. (characteristics of canvas and heat) there are also removable fibreglass tops that you can get to replace the soft top, and still have the option of a going topless.

as for soft top horror stories, i've had my soft top slashed, so they could unlock the passenger side door to steal my ash tray which only had spare nuts, bolts, screws and fuses! i never leave anything valuable in a soft top.

As with EFI, it's just better all round, although a well maintained and looked after carby motor will go the distance too. the carby is a 8valve motor, and the EFI is a 16Valve motor. EFI will have more power, better and easier to drive in some cases, and a lot smoother than a carby motor. and if you plan to off road it, the factory Mikuni carby will be fine off road. (but EFI would be good too)

as for personal experience with Vitara's, they ride a lot more smoother than sierras, more comfy, as seeing as you got all the luxuries, you're all set. and to top it off, theres a heap more room in a vit then a sierra, so thats good if you like to stretch out, or if you drive a lot.

for about roughly the same price, you can maybe find a newer model sierra with coil suspension.

Off the top of my head, this model manual has the lowest diff ratio's that Vitara's ever came with. this bit only applies if you plan to off road it, and will upgrade to bigger wheel and tyres.

I reckon, if its all true, and there no signs of abuse and off roading, then go for it. it will be a good buy, and if by any chance you're not happy, and taking into account you looked after as good, the resale price can be the same!

I have a Vitara, and haven't regretted getting it either. just wish i had more money for mods. and if you want a pic of modded vits, let me know and i can post some for you.

If your going to take it off road i wouldnt get a fiberglass hard top because mine comes off if my body flex's to much, Going over big holes you can feel it moving heeps. Does anyone else have this prob with there hard top of do i need bigger rubbers around the edge?

if you find my ash tray, you can use all the spare nuts, bolts and screws to hold your hard top on better.

but on topic, i didnt know that the Vits body flexes so much when off roading. (i have a canvas soft top) i guess u learn somethign every day.

I have a sierra but i would guess a vit would flex aswell

so how much does a fibreglass top cost?,and how much are soft tops to replace,....i.e which will cost me less in the long run,....
