I think they are fine as long as you have door handles inside and out.
I dont know if side intrusion strength comes into it though

...cause they came like that as a factory option I am pretty sure.
But I think for it to be 100% legal you have to get the factory model that came like that.
Otherwise it needs to be engineered still.

question 11
my 4x4 has removable doors, can i leave them off while driving?
vicroads strongly reccomends against this practice especially when then vehicle is used onroad, however if seatbelts are fitted the vehicle can be used without doors fitted.

ADR29 does not cover NA category vehicles which are four wheel drive. ADR29 is side door strength so side intrusion bars would not be fitted anyway.
Just check with the local authorities as they may want door handles inside & out. As there wont be any glass you might be able to get away with exteral handles only.

Dave talked to an engineer once up here about half doors and evidently it is ok as long as the vehicle is manufactured before the date that side intrusion bars were made mandatory. The door still needs to have a latch mechanism.

My 91 model didn't have intrusion bars. Basically the interpretation of the law here is: as long as the door is openable from both inside and outside the vehicle (if you have some type of vinyl window) or from the inside without windows and you use std adr approved latches and hinges you should be fine. Obviously no sharp edges either. It is a question of interpretation as to whether you even need doors to begin with.
Lastly, why are you wasting our/your time here and not just giving Phil a call as I assume he'll be doing your mod plates anyway??

Because I always feel like I am wasting his time
I was going to call him to get final approval once I had researched on here.

Check out this thread. This guy was making half doors for Patrol. Don't know if he has done any other models.
