I am tackling my first timing belt change .... I'm in Australia, and wondering if I should go for the Daihatsu part or is ther another that anyone can recommend?

Check that it actually needs one. The earlier DL motors are gear driven. The later ones have a belt. Check the timing cover. If its plastic, then its got a belt. If its alloy, then it has gears.

I know alot of people reccommend "Gates" timing belts, is that right Tuff?

This is all I could find on their web site though. This is their Daihatsu section for the Gates Powergrip timing belts or something like that anyway!

Except that listing shows as a 1.6 litre petrol. Thats a Feroza. The Rocky petrol is a 2 litre, and the diesel isnt even mentioned, which is typical.
