a small lift and 31s are a reasonable rig for that kind of duty, some early models of the 3ltr had some issues with motors blowing up. prety good donk, and an OK package

I used to be in the nz army and we had to use rodeos whan we where Timor cause the army's land rovers were shit and toyota could not supply enough hilux's in time!
Not bad wee trucks they were all turbo diesels and they all got an absolute thrashing every day of their lives, but they handled it well with no major dramas from what I saw.

There was a model change in March 2003. Is he looking for one before or after that date?

The difference is this.

The pre 2003 is supposed to be a better 4x4 according to the mags but I have never driven a post 2003.

The older model is pretty tough. I have put mine through a hell and never broken anything except for panels and tail lights

Available in 2.6L petrol 4 cylinder but only 1997/98 (this is mine)
Then went to 3.2L V6 140kw but has a reputation as being very thirsty.
2.8L T/D 4 cylinder
Post about 2002 dual cabs (I think only these) got a 3L T/D with intercooler.

This is the post march 2003

1997 -3/2003 model. This is mine.
