Dual Snorkels?

Hi All,
Before reading the topic and hanging crap on me; Yes i am a newbie to 4x4. Just purchased a 2.8 '91 Luxy. I saw a single cab one with dual snorkels and was wondering if anyone new anything about this? Especially with a turbo. I know the most important thing with the diesels is to let them breath but would this be worth it?

Welcome to the board, I drive a 2.8 turbo with a single turbo. I saw a turbo diesel with 2 snorkels ages ago at Emu Creek, can't see the point myself, the inlet to the turbo is only so big, maybe if it was a larger engine and needed more air to breath but...

Thanks Phippsy.
Heaps of Q's to ask answer at your leisure please.
What sort of turbo do you run? Everywhere seems to be trying to sell me a Mitsubishi water cooled for about $2500
Do you run an intercooler? air/air or air/water?
What sort of power improvement should i expect?
Should i put a timer on it?
Should you run a waste gate on a turbo diesel?
Last but not least what pressure do you run yours or is it adjustable?

phippsy has no intercooler.
i think the figures you can crank your 2.8L diesel from the 65kw standard up to about 85kw with a turbo added. you probably should put a timer on it if your lazy, or you can just drive it without hitting boost when your nearlly at your venue, so it will be cooler by then.

Mine is a DTS kit I bought off a member of this board, there is, or was 1 in the for sale section the other day for 1500 as well, looked like a good buy. As yet there is no intercooler, not much room without a body lift. It is air to air.
I've got a timer sitting my work bench, there a few schools of thought and lots of threads on timers worth searching and reading.
Over the puss of the 2.8, the turbo is great, any saving in fuel is lost by the foot down enjoyment of the turbo, and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust works a treat from the turbo back.

Mine runs 11psi, although I spent more than the cost of the kit getting the injector pump rebuilt for the turbo by Hiway Diesel at Acacia Ridge as well as getting the injectors done and the timimg belt whilst they were in there. 11psi was as much as they would put it at, most places don't recommend any more tha that on the 3L.

I thought all turbo's had a wastegate but I could be wrong, unless you mean a BOV?

11psi is pretty high without intercooling, 9 - 10 is a safer limit. Phippsy I hope you have an EGT fitted and keep an eye on it.

not all turbos have a wastegate, but most modern small engine turbos will have an internal wastegate. a non-wastegated turbo is potentially more efficient but is necessarily larger to allow it to flow all the exhaust form the motor, the tradeoff is significantly worse lag/spool-up time. You cannot fit a BOV to a 3L as it does not have a throttle butterfly so there is no boost spike when you lift off the throttle. well I spose you could fit one but it wouldn't do anything.

cheers

If you want to run dual snorkels purely as a wank factor excercise, then get a diesel and petrol one because they are left and right side respectively.
