Was never quite sure how these worked but from my understanding was that one axle had a heavy sping fitted at the very end inside the diffcentre and you tightened the bolt on the end of the Drive Flange to push the axle further into the centre to lock the axle.
So basicaly i guess there was a split axle gear in the centre. One side was attached to the Gear and the other half was attached to the Cross Shaft so when the axle was pushed further in it would lock the Cross Shaft to the axle and then the Star gears no longer rotated and in turn this locked the diff?

It looks like an ex army housing, but i'm pretty sure its a Macnamara unit.
When I had one, you needed to unwind a bolt out of the end which was about 80mm long, which would then spring the axle splines into the centre and then you would replace the bolt with one which was only about 15mm long.
That was at least how i thought it worked
Dave.

Well i was looking for one but for a salisbury unit, the only problem is that i live on the other side of the globe, what is the asking price??? if its worth it and i get a good shipping quote i might be very interested although its a rover axle. I live in Malta.

Is it even Landrover?
Pumpkins doesn't seem offset enough, and I can count 5 or 6 wheel studs on this side
Army had some extra bracing on each side of pumpkin AFAIK

Its Defianatly a Rover Diff. Its upside down in that pic and its a leaf sprung style housing.
Here is a couple of Series in Bris for sale and one is fitted with one of these diffs.

I think you may be right Tony. It probably has a locking dog permanently attached to the axle shaft, which then engages the diff side gear. Like the maxi-drive (see pic), except that the whole axle and locking dog slides, rather than the locking dog.

just letting you guys know of the specs.
*It is a JAck MAc locker
*It fits series 2 and 3
* it can be used in older Salisbury diffs
*it is activated by unscrewinbg drivers side bolt and driving foward 6 metres and de-activated by undwinding bolt again and driving backward 6 metres.
*it runs 24 spline salisbury axles modified to fit the sliding locking device
They ARE VERY strong in conparison to what is normally run in the rear of a series rover.
Please note none of the parts fit later model rovers.
If any more info is needed please PM me
Hope this helps.
