Howdy Yall
My missus (Belinda) has a Suzuki Sierra 1989 SJ413 Soft Top.
We are doing some mods to it and I thought we could post in here for anyone else who might need some info or just so you can read while the coffee's boiling..

Ok the Zook is a 1.3L Petrol 5spd Manual only 66,000 K's and Soft Top with 2 1/2 sports exhaust and extractors, CD, air horns :P and road tyres... It's Belinda's little toy and she thinks its cool but now she wants a little bit more out of her Zook so she can hold her own out in the bush.. The planned Mods are......
- 2 Inch Leaf Lift
- Nice New Shocks with more travel
- Cool set of Mud Tyres

Not super hardcore but never the less will help on the little bush tracks we go on...

Ok first things first.... Measurements so we can gauge our successes or failures.. Measurements were taken in 4 places and returned the following results...
Rear Wheel Flare - Ground = 77cm
Front Wheeel Flare - Ground = 75cm
Bottom Rear Bar - Ground = 41cm
Bottom Bull Bar - Ground = 48cm

Time to start work... First Job.. lets get some nice new shocks.. We shopped around and decide to go for TJM XGS shocks as the shock travel was very good and the price was nice !!
We decided on the following Shocks..TJM XGS
Front Shock Specs..
Part Num. GL12639
Style Pin (Top) Eye (Bottom)
Specs. 301mm (Com) 491mm (Ext) 35mm Int. Bore
Cost $98.80ea

Rear Shock Specs..
Part Num. GL12111
Style Eye (Top) Eye (Bottom)
Specs. 305mm (Com) 470mm (Ext) 35mm Int. Bore
Cost $98.80ea

The process of removing and replacing was easy as pie... Just undoing the 1 bolt at each end... No need to support the vehicle and only took only a few minutes.. The old shocks were NACKERED only 1 shock retained any gas inside it.. all the other shocks were completly gone and were absolutely useless.. To the point that we could of run no shocks at all and the ride would have been excatly the same

Note the only thing we noticed about the new shocks was the bush in the eye at the bottom of the front shocks was too small to fit over the threaded rod that the shock was to sit on... we just removed the front bottom bush in the shock and replaced with the bush from the original front shock as it was in A1 condition

Time to work on those saggy springs... as the car was owned by an old man (no he didn't have an emu) and we figured we just took out the original shocks.. That a 2 inch spring lift should make plenty of room to run a nice lil' set of muddies.....We got lazy here and just took the car in to get done....
PEDDERS 2 inch spring lift, new shackles, rubbers and U-bolts.. wheel alignment
Total cost $690....
We picked the car up earlier today but I had to go to work and have no pics as yet... But measurements I can provide.. Pics will be added in the morning.....
Measurements were taken in the same 4 places and returned the following results...
Rear Wheel Flare - Ground = was 77cm -- NOW 83cm
Front Wheeel Flare - Ground = was 75cm -- NOW 81cm :P
Bottom Rear Bar - Ground = was 41cm -- NOW 50cm
Bottom Bull Bar - Ground = was 48cm -- NOW 53cm ;)

Not bad results at all... Belinda is stoked.. We will go pick up her new muddies tomorrow and fit to car and provide more Measurements and pics of course

Total cost for Springs and shocks $1085.20

56k is fine mate.

weld the rear on her! she will really thank you!

and if you like your women with big arms, weld the front up. just tell her its the new muddies, they get alot more grip and make steering harder.

enjoy

Ok time for some cool rubber and some rims.... We looked around and read lots of posts here and decide for the following.....

PIRELLI SCORPION 2000 MUDDIES
30 x 9.5 x 15 $165 ea
F150 rims $64 ea

Conservative by some standards but it will do the job and not stress the car so it was an attractive solution..

Total cost of Sick rubber and rims $924

Ok last job... Get these puppies on the car, take some final measurements and start doing the indian rain dance...
Fitment of the rubber wasn't too hard with one exception.. One of the bolts that stops the splay of the leaves was sticking out of the nut and hitting the wheel in full lock.. :bad-words: No drama though... just a minute on the ratchet.. turn that bolt around so the nut was on the inside of the leaf and the front wheels turned lock to lock with no scraping... About 10 - 15mm clearance.. glad we didn't go for 10.5;s now  ..
Cleaned up the mess we made and took some poser shot for you to enjoy
:P    ;)
We took some final measurements at the same 4 points .. the results are in..
Rear Wheel Flare - Ground = was 77cm -- NOW 86cm
Front Wheeel Flare - Ground = was 75cm -- NOW 85cm :P
Bottom Rear Bar - Ground = was 41cm -- NOW 54cm
Bottom Bull Bar - Ground = was 48cm -- NOW 58cm ;)

Was a really cool experience, with no too much hassles.. just a little time and money and now we have a SUPA ZOOK that can hold its own and maybe even out perfom some of the Patrol's, Hilux's and Landy's in our group... No sign of rain yet.. But will post some pics here when we go out next.. Any questions or queries just ask..
We dont work or have a biased opinion for the company's we bought our goods from it was just our choice and we wanted to let you know of our experience... Hopefully we'll see you out in the bush sometime....

MAT AND BELINDA

Total Cost Of Zook Mods $2009.20 ( plus lunch and drinks :P )

Hello Mat and Belinda,

Looks good now,
What width rims are they? and if it had the original front bumber bar
on do you think it would have rubbed on that?

cheers

welcome to the world of suzuki. I payed a similar amount to you for all that gear. I also took out the rear and front load springs, made a huge difference. This mod will open up an entire new world when it comes to offroading.

Hi all, sorry had CPU probs.. I'll try to answer you all...

Germo...Lol yeah I wish i could.. unfortunately my missus is very smart and is just one of the boys when it comes to $$$ she knows what stuff costs.. and then wants it cheaper... nice thought though

SPAM... If you want to be constructive and post up specs.. great but bragging you got stuff cheaper with no info for the people reading this post is only selfish and pointless.. Thanks for nothing

CHOPS... They are 15 x 7 inch rims mate.. and as far as the standard bumber.. huven't seen one but I'm sure with a few minutes on an angle grinder you could make it fit if it rubbed... Sound crude but isn't a huge deal.. The tyres running very close to her springs on full lock was our biggest worry.. if we went wider tyres it would require rim modifications

jcianci.... thanks for the kind words.. may look at changing load springs, but don't see an advantage yet.. See you out there somewhere

Suzuki Surf Chik.... The ride is a fraction rough at the moment.. Not violent or anything reasonably comfortable.. The steering is easier and the bushes and springs make no noise at all.. The missus can't stop smiling while driving it...

If any further questions or info wanted.. just post it up. it might help answer someone else's questions too.. Msybe you want pics of certain things.. just ask.. ROCK ON !!
