33" on a 1983 RR

Post by Jay »

Thinking to fit 33" on stock looking RR 83 carby
Currently the RR has the typical 2" OME lift

Don not wanna trim at all will a 3" OME lift be enough to clear 33"*10.5" JT II or is a 2" Body Lift needed

Thanks

Don't be soft. Get cutting.
Other will come in with more info but I don't think you will fit much more than 31 inch tyres without cutting guards.

Do a search about what is invloved before forking out the money for a 3 inch lift.

I can do a 3 inch lift using Lovells coils (not in their catalogue) for $150 a pair
Shocks $95 front EFS and $110 rear (EFS not in catalogue)

Good Luck

not sure exactly, but you will most probably have to nip abit off the guards front and rear with 33's no matter what.

I am getting 33's for my rig soon, Also getting new guards and only going to have a 2" lift, will see how much cutting is required

Is you 1984 rangie still with the LT 95 and 4 speed manual or do you have the 5 speed manual version?

What tyres aize and make will you be fitting?
With the 2" Body lift will the long gear shifter hit the console?

Thanks

Jay

I have just fitted 2" alluminium blocks to my 86 Rangie. The transfer box lever is a bit low, but still works ok. I still might extend it up a little later on.

Cheers

33s should fit fine.

HIJACK on this forum has 35" Simex with a 3" lift - no cutting required.

Just go to your local tyre shop/4b shop and ask them to fit them up so that you can see. But a 3" lift will be way good enough.

Anyway...if they don't rub they are not big enough

I am concerened also about the gear shifter hitting the console as on the 1983 Model it a longer shifter and a higher center console....I know this can be solved by moving the console or maybe having to shoten the shifter....Das any feedback??

Thanks

Jay, I don't have a body lift and never intend fitting one. I was refering to a 2" spring lift

I had 2" lift before and 235/85 R16's (33" x 9.5") back when i had rover diffs and they didn't hit the guards at all.

the width of the tyre is the filler. I fitting 33" x 12.5" goodyear MTR's with a 2" spring lift (3" would allow that bit more clearance)

my RR has the 5 speed but with the long gear shifter in it.

Do you still have the LT 95 gearbox? I have the 4 speed manula version that came out in 1983.
Ok width is the filler I agree. Currently at 2" OME lift I am running 32*9.5 ET'II but any taller or wider I guess it will touch fender falres especially on 33*12.5 or 33*11.5....
What R&P ratios are you running? I remember you did fit GQ diffs under you RR Are the GQ diffsd hypoid design?
Thanks

No, I have R380 in mine (use to have LT77 but it died from age). my RR was an auto originally

I'm currently running 4.3 R&P's (with 35's) but will probably go back to 4.1's or even 3.9's for the 33's. Yes I have GQ diff's under mine, which means I have to cut a fair bit more out of the guards as I have 2" more width each side. yes the GQ's are hypoid design

Will swap you my 4.1's for your 4.3's.
