Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi guys, I know this seems like a wierd question, but I am looking for a special type of bolt / screw.

Does anyone know if one exists where there is a self-tapping or just plain screw on one end, and on the other end is a bolted thread that can have a nut put on it. Or something similiar ?

The reason is, I am working on making my own strapless bikini top and an experimental windjammer, the best way of fixing it to the inner walls of the car that I can think of would be a bolt going through the material and a nut on top to hold it into place ( or a wingnut type thing ).

There might be other ways to do this, but the Screw - Bolt was the first thing I could think off that is very strong.

I'm also not sure how plausible it would be to drill into the interior, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Hmm, or I could just glue some press studs to the interior and save myself a lot of hassle.

But I'm still curious about the bolts though.

Aren't the press-studs that hold a standard soft top on screwed into the panel? Panel is panel be it interior or exterior. Lower profile when not in use, press stud maybe 4-5 mm, bolt thingy would have to protrude at least thickness of nut plus hemmed canvas, 10-12 mm. Catch that on something one time and you'll regret taking that path.

Yes, bolts are a bad way to go. I can imagine scraping my head while installing them.

I think press studs are pretty good, although I would want a press stud head that is larger than the base, that way I could have a hole in the fabric, and put the press stud head over the hole.

Velcro might also be possible, but it might unattach itself too easily.

These tops would more likely be used for some bashing fun. When I get the correct size drawn up, I'll post it up on here.

I had my soft top modified. Cut the soft top just after the drivers head and put in a zipper and a flap to keep the water out. used press studs to hold it onto the targa bar. I could run with a whole soft top. Or just over the drivers head. Or i could take the drivers section off and leave the back on, then i just had a sun roof.

but thats all pointless now that i don't have any windscreen let alone roof.
