piston problem

G'day people i am try ing to put my td42 back together and was wanting to know if there is a safe way to instal pistons without a ring compresser any advice greatly appreciated

buy one it will make ur life easier and u won't be pulling it back down to change the rings if u accidently fark one with out knowing

Don't do it.
Imagine going to all the trouble of putting it back together and then discovering you have to pull the bitch apart again due to a broken ring......

buy one or make one out of steel strap, don't try to install a piston with out one you will break a ring!!

piston ring compressors are farkall.. somethign like 25 bux from a tool shop..
Definitely not worth doin without.. as rings are prone to breakage and need to be 'installed properly' or you'll have prolly some or no compression at all if not installed properly
Seeing you're doin a full engine rebuild.. least do it properly and stop takin shortcuts..

You can use a hose clamp off a snorkle in an emergency, but I'd recommend the correct toole for the job, or risk stuffing around with a pair of screwdrivers for an hour.

Get the proper tool, also i hope you used a ridging tool on the top of the bore where the rings dont run on. In high mileage engines this can cause some issues. It prolly wont stuff the rings up, but you cant be too safe can you?
