Long Ranger fuel tanks

Anyone had, or have one of these fitted to their Daihatsu?? Im after some feedback on them, as I am looking at maybe getting one.

I've made a few inquiries about the 98ltr long range tanks and found that the average cost to get one to me ( Perth ) and fitted would be around the $1000 mark and for a custom made tank ( Locally made ) about $1200 . Given that the Feroza has about 45 usable ltrs out of 60ltr tank made me think about it , being the tight ass I am I can't justify the expense but , at the right price I would get one for sure

Yea man,
I got me one of them long range tanks with a capacity of 99 litres.
Got it second hand in Melbourne a few months ago and it travelled up to Brissy in the passenger seat. I just love that smell of Diesel.
From my previous enquiries the Rocky and Feroza long range tanks are identical. They are still available from Loner Ranger.
No need for a engineers report if it is a replacement tank, only need one if the original is installed and it is an additional tank. I guess they are inspecting the mounting points for safety.
Certainly don't have to fill up as often, but when I do there ain't much change out of $100.
The extra weight in the rear doesn't worry me even with standard springs.
Installing it was a bit of a hassle. It certainly uses up every bit of available room behind the rear diff.
After much mucking around I eventually got it into place only to find the holes for bolts didn't quite line up. So dropped it down again after much cursing and moved the holes with the help of a file.
I got revolvers shackles fitted in the rear which didn't help. There's only about 15 mm clearance from them to the side of the tank.
Make sure you increase the length of the float pickup arm otherwise your gauge will sit on full for about 40 litres.
I spent a lot of time getting mine just right, however due to the design of the tank there's a space down the bottom that the float can't reach.
At least I know when my gauge is on empty I have exactly 20 litres left.
A bit of a trap, because you know you can still drive for about 180Klm when it's on empty. You just forget how long it's been on empty.

I thought I'd seen them advertised somewhere for $695 to suit the Feroza/Rocky. Does it cost that much extra to freight it to WA!?

I have been thinking about this idea for ages now and I just noticed you're from SA.
If I save up all me empty drink bottles and pile them inside me Rocky I could then drive down to SA and get 20 cents each for them.
I reckon by the time I pay for petrol and wear and tear I could easily make $42 profit per load.
Do you mind if I dump them in your front yard?

I think I missed something somewhere! My reply was to Andy saying the tank cost $1000 in WA. I've seen 4WD Systems with 100l tanks to suit the Feroza / Rocky too- I think that's where I saw the price. Surely freight costs wouldn't bump the price from $695 up to $1000?

G-day murcod , That was the prices that I got from ARB and Opposite Lock , that's including fitting and a full tank of fuel , which I spose isn't to bad considering the work involved , I guess it comes down to a choice of priorities . I'm in the process of buying a camper trailer and they have room for jerry cans , three jerry's full of fuel and I have the equivalent of a long-range tank , this is why I was also asking about the Unichip questions ( power gain ) I also was thinking about finding a Feroza wheel carrier and weld / bolt on a jerry can holder on to it , then bolt it on the back door next to the spare wheel . I know there would be weight issues but there is ways around that .

I was towing Jayco camper trailer and fuel consuption went from 10l/100km to 13 -14 l /100km . In some places you go uphill and against the wind - worst I got was around 20l/100km going towards Tom Price.
Fuel price was between $1.15 to $1.40 up north.
60 litre tank is just about useless.

Yes, I used to have a second tank installed under the passenger side, but I have removed it due to clearance problems. I have a price of about $680 supply only ex manufacturer in Newcastle. I have emailed ARB about a week ago for an across the counter price at my nearest ARB store. Im still waiting for an answer, slack basstards. If they aint interested in selling me one, then I will go direct purchase from manufacturer and get it freighted up here. Its probably cause its a Daihatsu that theyre not interested. Thanks for everyones comments. I would certainly have paid the $400 dollars for a tank.

Stuff ARB, why don't you directly to the manufacturer? (Sorry I don't like ARB as I can almost here them laughing everytime I go in to their stores and ask for bits to fit a Feroza- which they never have... 
)

Thanks Murcod, yep its Long Ranger manufacturer I have already emailed. They were very helpful. But they suggested local ARB store as their agent. But still having heard nothing from ARB, so Im gonna toss em, but not until Ive let em know how slack they are. Didnt know about 4wd systems tank. Ill check em out.

G'Day Andy & all,
Had the Long Ranger one in mine - one of the best things I did. Had a bit of "customizing" underneath by the time I ripped it out, painted in & sold it for $200 !! ;-) Considering the abuse it copped on a few rocks I can really vouch for how well they are made. Once you have a Long Range Tank you will never want to go back to Jerries !!
Install it yourself !! It really is pretty easy. The instructions that come with the kit are good & you really only need the basics & a mate or 2 to help. If it saves you $200 or more then it has to be worth it. We installed Heaths Long Ranger ( identical to Feroza one ) with 3 of us in about 2 -3 hours. No problems at all.
Haven't heard much about 4wd Systems tanks - but have heard a couple of negatives. Considering I have NEVER heard a negative of Long Rangers I know which one I would go with....
Installed a LRA ( Long Range Automotive based in Melbourne ) Tank in my Surf & have so far been impressed - not sure if they do a Feroza one...
Also - on the Unichip - if you are still thinking about & want to save a few dollars, you can have my Unichip module for $50 ( around $300+ new I think. ) Now I have a Turbo Diesel I don't think I will ever be installing it..
