Is it worth welding my rear diff?? just so i can drive some decent tracks as i removed my BL and the 32in mongrels dont fit anymore!! Is it worth welding it up for the easy to medium tracks with stockish tyres??

within reason but road tyres are road tyres mate :) you can spin 2 wheels with them and go nowhere or 4 if you have diff locks

Im thinking about gaurd chop!! :D

Went to start the gaurd chop this arvo and took off the right rear flare and flare braket and the gaurd is rusted through :bad-words: there is enough (unrusted) metal there to complete the guard trim but mite loose alot of gaurd strength. Also the idea of cutting the thing into a ute has always been the plan. If there is enough hours in the days this week the ute idea will most likley go ahead  .

hey small talk, can you get some more pics of how and where you chopped the back off. i want to do it to a sierra i have at my place. its already got a back on the cab already, but if you can take a pic of the rear of the cab, and where you cut, that would be great.

thanks

and if anyone else can help out too, please do.

Gday Now that my ute conversion is almost complete i would like to modify my suspension and move my rear diff, i was thinking make up adapter plates for the spring mounts to move the whole lot back or would i be better off using longer springs in the rear?? im extending the chassis 2in so what spring are about 2in longer than sierra rears?? and has anyone used plates to move the diff?? i might also be doing 3/4 eliptic on the rear.

looks like you need coils in the rear

Yes Coils would be excelent but that will probably come later ive compromised those "good tyres" as you call them, its either tyres or injection and later on it'll need injection so id rather that would you?? but first the diff relocation.Q1. What springs are around 2 - 3 inchs longer than standard sierra rear and the same width?? Any help with this would be much apreciated. Also with the truck biuld after reading "a little bit of old gold" i thort to myself i never really drove it stock so ill go for the "sleaper" style looks like stock but goes like stink!! AKA "Stink Mobile"

Have managed to do a deal and now am rolling on 31in mudz on custom Overkill rims (i think), have hammered all the seams flat and they accationally touch and rub on full flex but this will be over come with adapter plates moving the diffs and giving 1/2 - 1 inch lift. also i will probably make up tail shaft spacers if needed so i save money on custom shafts. Here is a current pic:

Fuck. Thats pretty much the same as what I have planned for mine. Cut it into ute, custom tray etc etc. Have you seen the black ute sierra driving around town? That whitey's (guy used to ride with). He made custom tray, bars and shit and they are ShortyIQ awesome so I'll be getting a few ideas off him.

What are you doing about closing in behind the cab? Drop it into the engineers and get something fabbed up and put a small window in?

Yeah known him for a while now him and Rhett have been round helping me out with the ute cut and sourcing parts and the best places in town to get them etc. im having the softop over the top and down behind and it will have those popers along the new pannel. Been driving this thing and it goes off ill probably be welding the rear diff when i replace the axel seals and bearings, also gettin the master cylinder rebuilt. Then Rego is due :bad-words: oh well thats what ya get.
