starter motor won't turn (read the FAQ)

Hey fellas! When starting the ol'girl tomorrow it seemed dead as. I've checked all things (battery etc.) and followed procedures as listed in the FAQ. Starter moter is working, starter stwitch and starter relay work properly also.

I've measured voltage on the "pull in" terminal (little one on the starter) and it reads zero volts when ign. key is in start position. However, when I disconnect the wire from the terminal and measure it again, it reads battery voltage.

Can anyone shed a light on this, before I start removing steering cluster etc.

BTW, car is a Daihatsu F20

Cheers Ron

I'm assuming you can hear the starter relay on ith firewall or under the dash clicking, in which case pulling apart the steering column is useless.
hook a 12v ilght bulb to the "pull in" wire at the starter, test it repeateadly and if it all works the problem is probably low voltage, bad earthing of the starter or internal in the starter.
With the vehicle in neutral, try running a decent size wire from the "pull in" terminal on the starter and touching it on the positve of the battery to check the starter, it should crank over.
Is the starter clicking at all?
Is it petrol or diesel? Petrols often have an extra terminal on the starter that bypasses the ballast resistor when starting, so make sure you have the right "pull in" terminal.

Thanks for quick reply.

I have put the battery voltage directly to the terminal (only one beside the main terminal, so that should be the correct one:lol: ), and the engine starts witn no problems. strange thing is that i read approx. 12 v with the key on start and the wire not connected, so battery voltage is ok.

starter switch is also ok measured the pins there and al is working. I Think Ill try to follow the wire from the starter switch to the starter and see if it's earthed somewhere.

Thanks
