hey people i have searched about this but couldnt find any info so i thought id ask. the question is, i need to put clutch in but dont have a clutch guide tool what can i use for this instead of it?

I use an old timber cricket stump.

Use the pointy end to locate the bearing etc.

Worked fine on the old Pajero.

sometimes with that method u will need a roll of tape to build up the diameter of the cricket stump or object youve obtained to have a firm fit in the center of the clutch and spigot bearing center

you can do it buy eye,

the tool is sold at most auto shop's which i don't think are to expensive

tighten the clutch up evenly not lock it down one side first then the other as u can damage the pressure plate

becarefull when fitting the gearbox don't force it to hard or if its close and you can start the bolts n could pull it in do that evenly and once again don't force it
as you can damage the clutch

a smear of grease on the input shaft can assist too a SMEAR don't go crazy with it ,as grease when hot will melt n go on the clutch and you will be doin it again

go to the wreckers and buy an old input shaft...

use your finger to initally line it up then as you tighten it up check to make sure it feels even around the pressure plate.

did the same on my TD42...

basically used a long nose socket attached to an extension (dont lose the socket!!!) and just put the clutch in.., then hte housing then used the socket to lever it in place and check visually that it looked straight then bolted it up..

hasnt failed so far

Did my clutch a couple of months back. Got the tool (a plastic one) from a bearing supplier for $5. A friend has made a range of sizes out of a thick broom stick handle and that works well too.

Find a bolt or something round that will slip neatly into the spigot bearing, then wrap some tape around the bolt to get the thickness right wear it needs to be for a snug fit into the clutch plate. It's all i have ever used.
