winch "kill switch"

Trying to work out the best way to add a master on/off switch on my dash rather than relying just on unplugging the hand controller.

before i go and rack my brains has anyone on here done it and which wires in the control box did you but into, what size relay did you use etc etc (or point me in right the direction if its been covered before)

or should i bite the bullet and rewire everything so the controller is dash based rather than handheld

the winch in question is a warn 8000 pound low mount

Thanks
Simon

is it a 5 pin controller or 3 pin, if its a 5 pin there should be a single thing black earth with comming out of the solinoid pack, if this is not connected the winch will not function, so you could wire this up into the cab through a switch and connect it to the - in the cab somewhere

Depending on what you want to achieve here, the safest genuine kill switch would actually cut the main power cable to the winch, not just to the control box.

I am in the process of doing this now. Control box in the engine bay. Master switch in centre consol with power only when ignition is on. When master switch is turned on it enables a rocker switch next to it to contol the winch.
